HRSP Calls for Action Against Quackery
Society urges the government to regulate hair restoration and curb unsafe medical practices
Growing Concerns About Quackery
The Hair Restoration Society of Pakistan (HRSP) has urged the government to take firm action against the rising trend of quackery in hair restoration and other medical procedures. According to the Society, untrained individuals continue to perform surgical treatments without proper medical education, posing serious risks to patients and damaging the credibility of Pakistan’s healthcare sector.
Concerns Raised at Karachi Workshop
The call for regulation followed the conclusion of a two-day live surgery workshop held at a hair restoration center in Karachi. The event brought together local and international experts, led by HRSP President Dr. Rana Irfan and Vice President Dr. Uzma.
Speakers highlighted how unauthorized procedures are being conducted in beauty salons, non-medical workplaces, and even homes. These practices often involve unsafe, outdated techniques and attract patients due to lower costs and a lack of oversight.
Experts cautioned that without strong regulatory frameworks and strict qualification standards, quackery will continue to grow and endanger patient safety.

Training, Ethics and International Standards
The workshop included hands-on training for junior doctors, offering exposure to updated techniques and modern surgical methods. Participants also shared ethical guidelines and emphasized the need for Pakistan to adopt global medical standards.
Speakers suggested turning such workshops into permanent platforms for training and research to support professional growth in the field.
Pakistan’s Potential in Medical Tourism
HRSP members noted that Pakistan holds strong potential in medical tourism—especially for hair restoration. Countries like Turkiye have become international hubs by maintaining strict clinical standards and offering advanced services.
Experts believe that Pakistan can build a similar reputation, but only if the issue of quackery is addressed decisively. Proper regulation could boost economic growth and attract both local and foreign patients seeking reliable healthcare.
A Way Forward
The Society stressed that ethical practice, proper medical training, and patient safety should remain central to Pakistan’s healthcare system. They expressed confidence that international workshops like this one will help elevate the standards of hair restoration surgery and contribute to a safer, more professional industry.
